Every Italian Greyhound that comes into our care is re-homed based on specific criteria unique to that individual dog’s needs – what one Italian Greyhound needs may be completely different to what is required for another. As a result, we do not have a simple tick list that can be applied in every case. Securing the best future for each dog is much more complex than a simple tick list allows.
However, we have some basic criteria that all potential adoptive homes must meet:
You live in England, Scotland or Wales
We only re-home Italian Greyhounds to homes on the UK mainland in England, Scotland and Wales. If you do not live in England, Scotland or Wales you are not eligible to register as a potential Adopter.
An expectation of lifetime care
We will only re-home where we can reasonably expect the Adopter to provide the best care for the Italian Greyhound for the rest of the dog’s lifetime.
Time & companionship
Adopters must have time to spend with the Italian Greyhound. We do not re-home in households where the primary adopter relies on other people to provide companionship and care to the Italian Greyhound for significant amounts of time each day. e.g. a person who works full-time outside of the home and would rely on doggy day care or a dog walker while they are at work.
A secure garden
The home of an Adopter must have direct access to a fully secure, private garden. Communal gardens, or apartments with balcony areas do not meet this criteria.
No large breed dogs
The home does not have any large breed dogs in residence.
Multiple dogs in the home
We do not re-home Italian Greyhounds in homes where there are already a large number of dogs (of any size) in residence.
Young children under the age of 8
Homes with children under the age of 8 will not be considered unless those children already have experience of living with Italian Greyhounds.
If a prosective Adopter meets all of the basic criteria above, they will be considered in our home searches where they meet the specific criteria for each Italian Greyhound that we are re-homing.
As part of our due-diligence when searching for a propsective adoptive home, we carry out interviews and in-person home checks to confirm that the home meets the above criteria, and that the home is suitable.
If a prospective Adopter does not meet all of the basic criteria above, they will not be considered in our home searches.
